Cyprus 2016
23-25 June, Limassol 2016
On behalf of the Scientific and Organising Committees, I am pleased to welcome you in Limassol, Cyprus and to the CYPRUS2016 4th International Conference on Sustainable Solid Waste Management (http://www.cyprus2016.uest.gr).
As in the cases of the ATHENS 2012 Conference (www.athens2012.uest.gr, June 2012), the ATHENS 2014 Conference (www.athens2014.biowaste.gr, June 2014) and the TINOS 2015 Conference (www.tinos2015.uest.gr, July 2015), the CYPRUS 2016 4th International Conference aims to make a step forward in the field of solid waste management through the promotion of innovative technologies and effective practices.
We are happy to identify that the series of our conferences started in 2012 keeps attracting the attention of the academics and private and public sector, a fact proved by the gradual increase in the number of participants, the participating countries and the papers presented during the conferences.
It is true that we make significant efforts to increase the quality of the papers and keep high standards, as proved by the increase of the papers finally published in scientific journals of high reputation. At the same time, we do our best to provide the participants of the conferences with high services and managed to do so without having to pay registration fees until now.
The CYPRUS2016 Conference aims to stimulate the interest of the scientific community, the competent authorities and the public and inform them about the latest developments and achievements in the field of solid waste management with emphasis on municipal solid waste. Biological Treatment (composting & anaerobic digestion), the treatment at central facilities, waste prevention, separation at source & recycling also constitute priority subjects of the conference agenda. Special attention will be drawn on circular economy and industrial symbiosis, as well as to biofuels and biobased products and the stream of agricultural waste.
The Conference will provide an opportunity to bring together scientists & professionals from government departments, Municipalities, private institutions, research & education institutions, by being a forum for the exchange of the most recent ideas, techniques & experiences in all areas of solid waste management.
A special Session will focus on solid waste management in Cyprus and the role of Local Authorities & Municipalities for taking advantage of both recyclable materials and biowaste. Last but not least, the intention of the Conference is to seek and promote networking opportunities through a session devoted to Environment-related Competitive EU Programmes.
The Conference is organized within the LIFE+ LIVEWASTE project (LIFE12 ENV/CY/000544) (www.livewaste.org) dealing with the development, demonstration and evaluation of an innovative decentralized approach for sustainable management of livestock waste achieving environmental protection and climate change mitigation. The LIVEWASTE project is coordinated by the Cyprus University of Technology and Professor Costas Costa is the coordinator and Co-Chair of the CYPRUS 2016 Scientific Committee. It is important to note that two more LIFE+ projects, WASTE2BIO (www.waste2bio.eu) and AGROSTRAT (www.agrostrat.gr), have contributed to organizing a fruitful conference event.
The Conference agenda is dense and rich, offering a considerable variety of topics presented with its more than 275 presentations within the twenty one sessions on 23rd - 25th June 2015 at Atlantica Miramare Beach Hotel in Limassol.
We hope you will find the CYPRUS2016 Conference useful and successful and that you will enjoy staying in Cyprus, the third largest island in the Mediterranean, where Aphrodite made her home. I am very happy that this fourth conference takes place in Cyprus, my birthplace.
Maria
Loizidou,
