NTUA


NTUA-UEST participates very actively in the areas of technical aspects of waste treatment, waste statistics, estimations for waste arising and environmental effects of waste treatment, analysis of effectiveness of policies and measures (for pollution prevention and control), etc. The Unit has undertaken more than 100 projects both national and European. Following, selected projects are provided: - ‘Collection of data related to the waste produced by: i) Constructions, demolitions and excavations, ii) Mining and quarrying activities’, Eurostat, European Commission, 2003, -‘Development of a demonstration plasma gasification / vitrification unit for the treatment of hazardous wastes’, Greece, Life Programme DG XI European Commission, 2002 - ‘Hazardous waste management plan on national level - Development of technical specifications for the management of hazardous waste and used oils’, Ministry of Environment, Regional Planning and Public Works, Greece, 2002. -‘Provision of advice services for the establishment of management system regarding packaging materials and their waste’, Cypriot Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and the Environment, 2001, -‘Implementation of the integrated prevention and pollution control Directive (IPPC) in Slovak Republic’, Twinning Project, SK/02/IB/EN/02, 2003 – 2005‘

 

EDRASIS


EDRASIS C. PSALLIDAS S.A. is a construction company, founded in 1963. It is ranked at the 6th grade of the MEEP registry (experience based construction industry registry, administered by the Greek Ministry of Public Works, where 1st grade is the lowest and 7th is the highest). Its human resources exceed 600 people, of which more than 100 are qualified Engineers of various specialties. EDRASIS owns and operates a wide variety of state of the art mechanical equipment (a large number of which is highly specialized), whose present value is of the order of €30M. EDRASIS has been listed in the Athens Stock Exchange since 1994. EDRASIS has a reputation of delivering  top quality structures, based on the high degree of specialized knowledge and experience of its highly skilled personnel and on the efficient use of its state of the art equipment. During the past few years it has successfully completed more than 100 major projects (some of which were located in Cyprus, Lebanon and Croatia) whereas the present remaining total cost of works of the projects underway amounts to €106M approximately. EPTA

EPTA is a technical consultant company, mainly working in the field of environmental protection. It provides technical services in the field of waste management and engineering, wastewater treatment, pollution prevention, sustainable development and new technologies in the field of environmental protection. EPTA has undertaken a number of public contracts on drafting tender documents for environmental construction projects such as landfills, recycling facilities, waste waster treatment plants and co-operates very closely with leading construction industries in Greece. The participation of EPTA in a number of EU funded project also reflects it European profile and experience on new Community Environmental policies. An indicative list of the projects, where EPTA participates includes: - LIFE-Env “Integrated Product Policy in the Telecommunication Sector” – LIFE Env “Starting with IPP in Mediterranean Countries” – LIFE Env “Greening Public Procurement in the Mediterranean Local Authorities”, SAVE “Private Investments move to ecoPrower”, etc

 

UCY


UCY is a public corporate body and is the most prestige educational and research institution of the country. It is governed by the Council and the Senate. The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) is one of the four departments of the School of Engineering at the University of Cyprus. The  main activities of the CEE cover the development of systems for prevention and control of environmental pollution, the development of programs for the integrated management of wastewater and solid waste, the development and application of inventory programs concerning the production of solid waste (municipal and industrial) and industrial wastewater, the development of appropriate schemes for the integrated management of municipal solid waste and other priority waste streams in local and national level, the development of appropriate schemes for the integrated management of hazardous waste in local and national level, the preparation and implementation inventories, life cycle analysis, development of green technologies, etc. CEE works in close cooperation with competent Ministries and other Governmental agencies as well as various European and International Organizations, providing environmental management inputs for the development and implementation of national strategies and action plans. ETEK


The Technical Chamber of Cyprus (acronym ETEK) is founded in Nicosia as a Legal Entity of Public Law. It regulates the Engineering Profession in Cyprus. The practice of the Engineering Profession and the use of the relevant title is limited to people who register with ETEK. Any person is eligible for registration in the members´ registry of ETEK and is a member of it, provided that he/she has obtained a degree or university diploma or other equivalent academic qualification to any field of the engineering science recognized by ETEK.
The Chamber’s scope is the promotion of Science in the different fields related to the disciplines of its members in Engineering and Technology in general, and their progress for an independent economic, social and cultural development of the Republic of Cyprus. Some of the responsibilities of ETEK are:

Represents the registered Engineers in the Republic of Cyprus and abroad; Participates in international organizations, chamber associations and international unions of engineers, develops affiliations with similar organizations of other countries, organizes scientific conferences, exhibitions and other activities for the promotion of its scope; Informs the public with announcements, publications or any other suitable way, on engineering related issues; Advises the relevant authorities; Gathers data for statistical purposes and develops statistics on issues related to any of the fields of the engineering science

 

 
 
 

National Technical University of Athens (NTUA)

The main technical and scientific coordinator of the project is NTUA, while five more partners are involved in the project. For the implementation of the project a strong partnership among universities, construction industries, technical consultants and associations has been established.
